This morning, I received the following email from an international education colleague:
Hi, Ruth! I subscribe to the SECUSS-L listserv [for study abroad / education abroad professionals] and recently got the link you sent to the list that included a link to your YouTube channel.
I was interested in the intercultural videos especially, but noticed the social networking links and thought I'd give them a gander. I'm not especially technophobic but I am not comfortable in the arena and don't make the time or find the patience to learn.
I wanted to tell you that the short videos on social networking you have collected have really opened doors for me, make me feel like these are a) useful tools that I WANT to use and b) not beyond my technological capacities. I forwarded them to a friend who teaches an online grad level course (using Blackboard, primarily) and she is really excited, too. In short, your post has made a huge impact. Thank you!!!
This email absolutely made my day!
And then she added:

That's empowerment! That's what I want to help to inspire and encourage and create. That's why I love doing what I do.
For many years, I worked directly with students, "changing the world one life at a time." These days, I'm working more with people who work with the students. It's my hope that I what I share with international educators on this blog and in my work will help to impact even more lives — and continue to change our world, one life at a time.
